arsenic toxicity

Arsenic, are you being poisoned?

Do you have arsenic toxicity?  Get yourself tested here.

Believe it or not arsenic one of the oldest and well-known poisonous toxic heavy metals and is found high in people in today’s society.  Arsenic is an odorless, tasteless toxic heavy metal that enters our water supply and our food supply via agricultural and industrial practices.  This dangerous substance is used in and on many of the products you use everyday and it has the potential to not only make you very sick, cause serious disease but it can also cause cancer and kill you.

Today, sources of arsenic are used as wood preservatives, in paints, dyes, metals, drugs, soaps, pesticides, semi conductors, agricultural applications, mining and smelting.  That’s right, it gets added to your food supply and it’s in you water supply, you consume it and you can become toxic with it with excess amounts causing skin damage, circulatory system problems and an increase risk of cancer.

Symptoms of Arsenic Poisoning

Symptoms associated with arsenic poisoning vary depending on the amount your currently are exposed to, for example some of the more minor symptoms would include:

  • Headaches
  • Confusion
  • Burning eyes
  • Cramps
  • Hair loss
  • Mood swings

More severe symptoms of arsenic poisoning include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Panic attacks
  • Vomiting & vomiting blood
  • Blood in the urine
  • Stomach pain
  • Heart disease
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Cancer
  • Stroke
  • Diabetes
  • Chronic lower respiratory disease

Causes of arsenic toxicity

As mentioned previously arsenic toxicity comes from the consumption of arsenic in the water and food supply, in addition you may also be exposed to arsenic in the work environment and or you may have detoxification problems related to genetics that makes it harder for you to detoxify the metal.

Vitamin A deficiency can also contribute to arsenic toxicity, this is because arsenic interferes with vitamin A preventing the vitamin from doing its job, therefore symptoms of vitamin A deficiency such as mouth ulcers, poor night vision, acne, frequent colds or infections, dry flaky skin, dandruff, thrush or cystitis and diarrhea can all be indications of arsenic toxicity combined with vitamin A deficiency.

It’s very important to understand that vitamin A supplementation can not fix arsenic toxicity, arsenic toxicity can only be removed by the liver through certain detoxification protocols.

The danger of arsenic in the body

We already know that arsenic is a poison and we have looked at the symptoms of different levels of arsenic toxicity, so lets see why arsenic is so dangerous to humans….

Our body’s are essentially a constant process of metabolism, that is we use things and convert those things into useful things.  In the case of arsenic toxicity, arsenic interferes with a process of enzyme catalysis by preventing the oxidation of pyruvate into a very important co enzyme called acetyl coenzyme A.

Now that arsenic has disabled acetyl coenzyme A, it has effectively disrupted the citric acid cycle which is responsible for energy production and further prevents the use of thiamine (vitamin B1) leading to thiamine deficiency which in turn leads to lactic acidosis which leads to disease and even death.  Lactic acidosis is also linked to nervous disorders such as panic attacks.

Therefore thiamine deficiency symptoms that are as a result of arsenic toxicity include tender muscles, eye pains, irritability, poor concentration, prickly legs, poor memory, stomach pains, constipation, tingling hands and rapid heartbeat are all possible signs of arsenic toxicity which again can not be solved with nutritional supplements of B1.

Similarly vitamin B5 is also affected by arsenic as a result of the interference of acetyl coenzyme A leading to symptoms associated to B5 deficiency such as muscle tremors or cramps, apathy, poor concentration, burning feet or tender heals, nausea or vomiting, lack of energy, exhaustion after light exercise, anxiety or tension and teeth grinding.

Arsenic Toxicity & Genetics

Some people are genetically predisposed to arsenic toxicity, this is because certain genes belonging to liver detoxification pathways that normally deal with arsenic detoxification have been deleted, in these cases a genetics test can confirm and a specialized nutritional program can help the individual detoxify arsenic.

Arsenic Destroys…

Arsenic can interfere with just about any part of the body but mainly these are the most likely problems:

  • Vitamin A deficiency
  • Vitamin B1 deficiency
  • Vitamin B5 deficiency
  • Potassium deficiency
  • Acetyl coenzyme A
  • Citric acid cycle and or Krebs Cycle
  • Prevents the use of essential fats
  • Prevents the use of essential proteins
  • Prevents the use of essential carbohydrates
  • Prevents energy production

Do you have arsenic toxicity?

The best way to find out if you have toxic levels of arsenic and or if you’re at risk from arsenic related disease is by a hair mineral analysis, this simple home test shows if you are toxic and guidance can be given to how to detoxify the arsenic in your situation as everyone is different.

Smokers and ex smokers often have higher levels of arsenic toxicity, this is because arsenic pesticides are used on tobacco crops, then burning the tobacco via smoking delivers arsenic into the body via the lungs in larger amounts.

Detoxification of arsenic

Often people attempt to detoxify arsenic without knowing if they have toxicity and without knowing the best ways to achieve results.  Arsenic is a very toxic metal and each person who has been exposed to the metal is affected in different ways, this can cause detoxification problems.

It’s important to have yourself tested by professionals that can guide you through the detoxification process that will work for you personally.  It’s also possible that you may have a gene mutations which can make any basic detoxification program useless and or harmful.
